Budget airline Easyjet has cancelled all flights to and from Sharm el-Sheikh until the 6th of January amid security fears following the Russian airliner bombing last month.

Easyjet said that it made the decision to provide certainty to it’s customers who were planning their Christmas holidays. In a statement, the company said that customers with tickets to Sharm el Sheikh could choose to receive a full refund, fly to a different destination or choose to have a voucher to use on future flights. They added that any customers who were currently in Sharm el Sheikh and wanting to fly home should contact the airline’s customer service team.

The statement read: easyjet

“You will be aware that over the last few weeks, there have been significant issues associated with flying to and from Sharm el-Sheikh.  To help provide some certainty for our customers’ travel arrangements over the Christmas period, we can now confirm we will be cancelling all flights to and from Sharm el-Sheikh January 6, 2016. Customers on affected flights will have three options: To fly to another destination within the easyJet network, receive a full refund of the flights booked with us, arrange a flight voucher with us that can be used for future flights.

We are sorry for the inconvenience this will obviously cause, but we hope that being clear with all our customers at this point helps you to manage your plans with more certainty.
‘The situation is beyond our control and passenger safety will always be our number one priority.”
