Avis was founded in 1946 by Mr. Warren Avis. The company was the first car rental service based at an airport — Willow Run Airport in Detroit — and began with just three cars. Less than ten years later, the business was so popular that Avis began to open franchises around the globe in places like Canada, Mexico and Europe.
Avis’ corporate motto was “We Try Harder” during which time the company was the second most popular car rental service in the United States.
