Teletext have proven that their decision to decrease 50 travel agents down to one was a good idea, as since signing the deal they’ve increased Truly Travel’s profits by 400% and got themselves out of the red and into the black.

Once upon a time, Teletext worked with a wide variety of travel agents to get the best deals possible, and consumers flocked to teletext for this very reason, making it one of the most popular and successful companies in its field.

However, all was not as it seemed as profits declined dramatically around 2010, and so Teletext decided to scrap all travel agencies and work solely with one travel agent – Truly Travel. This news, of course angered travel agencies previously associated with teletext and even put a few out of business. They also claimed that this change would mean that the consumer wouldn’t get the same deals as they once did.

“Customers went to teletext in the past because it offered a wide choice of companies competing on price, now it will just have the one and  will offer them nothing different than dozens of other companies on the internet.”

Others seem to think that pricing may be taken more seriously now, rather than misleading the public regarding value. They say that a single company will be easier to manage and police.

One of the main attractions for this move, Teletext claimed, was Truly Travel’s India-based call centre, which drastically reduced costs, and quite frankly, Teletext needed to do something to save themselves, no matter how irritating these types of call centres are to customers.

The move doesn’t seem to have put off customers booking holidays though, and Truly Travel say that they’ll continue to bring customers the lowest prices around. However, there’s only one way to find out, and that’s to try them out for yourself.
