Following on from our Instagram list, we have a breakdown of Google’s most searched for destinations of the year. How do they compare? Well, they don’t really! Let’s take a look at the top 10 destinations that travellers were searching for in 2015.
10. Tenerife

Last year: Did not feature
Tenerife is great as a year-round destination as the weather is pretty much always great. There’s plenty of resorts for families and young people alike. It’s also a relatively short flight from the UK. Bonus: We featured Tenerife on our ‘places to go in January‘ article!

9. Greece

Last year: Did not feature
It seems the economic crisis in the country did not put people off visiting Greece this year. From Santorini to Athens, there’s a place in Greece for everyone. If you can’t quite decide where to go, why not go island hopping?
How to get there: Lots of airlines fly to Greece, such as Thomas Cook.
8. Amsterdam

Last year: 10th

7. Italy

Last year: 7th
A non-mover, Italy has it all, from rolling countryside landscapes to bustling cities. It is the home of culture, with the likes of Rome and Venice. Ah, la dolce vita.
How to get there: Fly with the likes of Easyjet.
6. Dubai

Last year: 9th
Dubai is a metropolis with the world’s most impressive hotels, long beaches and amazing shopping. No wonder it’s one of the most popular long haul destinations.
How to get there: Fly with Emirates.
5. Cornwall

Last year: 6th
Lovely Cornwall has made it to the most searched list. With beaches as nice as you can get in the UK, it’s a popular destination for those who don’t like to stray too far from home.

4. Spain
Last year: 5th
Spain is a popular destination for UK families looking for short flights and affordable holidays. You can ‘go cultural’ in Barcelona or go a little tacky in Benidorm.
How to get there: Fly with a budget airline such as Ryanair.
3. Australia

Last year: 4th
Australia has many great sights: Great Barrier Reef, Sydney Opera House and the Outback. It’s also popular for a working holiday, particularly with young people.
How to get there: Fly with the country’s flagship airline, Qantas.
2. USA

Last year: 2nd
Another non-mover, the USA is the holiday destination of dreams for many people. The possibilities are endless: go gambling in Las Vegas, mix with Hollywood in Los Angeles or honky tonk the night away in Nashville.

Last year: 3rd
This concrete jungle is a bucket list destination for many. Shopping, sightseeing and eating, it’s all here. So no surprise it made to number one of the most searched for destinations! Check out our guide on how to do New York on a budget.
