[typography font=”Cardo” size=”24″ size_format=”px” color=”#FE2EF7″][dropcap]T[/dropcap][/typography]here is a chance that First Choice might find itself suffering from legal problems following dozen of its guests falling ill after staying at a First Choice holiday resort.
The threat of legal action comes after at least 50 holidaymakers found themselves struck down with alleged food poisoning whilst staying at a Red Sea resort. All of those affected were staying at the Coral Sea Waterworld resort in Sharm el Sheikh, which has got a 4 star rating, when they fell ill. Some of those who were affected claim that they were so badly affected that the had to confine themselves in their hotel rooms on intravenous drips.
The law firm Simpson Millar is reported to have told the Daily Mirror that it has had 50 cases of the illness that have been reported to them from guests staying at the hotel over a period of 24 hours and there are ever increasing suspicions that there could be up to 100 cases of the illness affects holidaymakers.
Apparently the cases of sickness at the hotel started as early as 17th July, according to the travel site TripAdvisor. On the review site, the Coral Sea Waterworld hotel has a rating of 84%, giving it a ranking of 38 out of the 234 hotels in Sharm el Sheikh. The ratings summary for the hotel stand at an impressive 4.5 for all elements, including location, sleep quality, rooms, service, value and cleanliness. There are 2,489 excellent traveller ratings, as well as a further 1,122 giving it a very good rating.
The resort is described as being in a “great spot in peaceful Nabq Bay, on its own 400-metre stretch of golden-sand beach” and has a waterpark onsite, complete with thrill rides and a lazy river.
Some of the latest victims have been diagnosed as having Shigella, according to a range of newspaper reports. Shigella is a bug that is commonly linked to poor hygiene standards and foo poisoning.
First Choice have released the following statement, saying [quote]We are aware of a small number of cases of sickness at the hotel in Egypt with symptoms similar to a virus. Our overseas Holiday Advisors have been assisting any customers reporting sickness at the hotel and they have been offering them appropriate support and advice. Reported cases of sickness have reduced and an independent health and safety consultant has been undertaking a thorough investigation. We would like to reassure customers that we closely audit all the resorts to which we operate to ensure that health, hygiene and comfort levels are maintained.[/quote]
