Your social media news feed is probably already starting to fill up with holiday spam, i.e Beach selfies and sausage legs from around the world. But believe or not, Britons are becoming much more cultural when it comes to holiday destinations. According to a survey conducted by onepoll, there has been a sizeable shift in the trend from sun seekers to culture vultures, with only nine per cent of Brits viewing a sun holiday as a key decision factor now.

Also, and of course, when asked what the most important item was to take on holiday, most people value their camera phone to take those very important ‘selfies’ as the number one essential item,  beating sun cream, a book, visitor guide or a bucket and spade.

It’s easy to dismiss ‘selfies as a fad, but it’s inevitable you are going to want to document and share your trip with a momento. And boy are Brits serious about their selfies. Brits want the best selfies possible, but what did Brits vote as the best selfie destination? Well, the number one place to snap a selfie was the Eiffel Tower, followed by the Statue of Liberty, Niagara Falls and the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles.  Unsurprisingly the only British entry in the top ten was Stonehenge, which fell behind the Grand Canyon and the Great Wall of China but, and this is quite an achievement, it beat the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Taj Mahal and Machu Picchu. Take a look at this for the rest of the results from the survey.
