At a prestigious travel awards, Aer Lingus has been voted the best short haul airline, just six months after it was acquired by IAG.
The awards were the Guardian and Observer Travel Awards and the win by Aer Lingus saw them beat the likes of Ryanair and Easyjet. The awards take place each year and are voted for by readers of the Guardian and Observer newspaper.
In the case of Aer Lingus, the judging panel said that despite ‘fierce competition’ from the likes of Ryanair, Aer Lingus is continuing to ‘thrive’ following the takeover by the International Airlines Group, who also own British Airways.
A spokesperson for Aer Lingus said that the award was an indication of growing investment in improving guest experience for people who fly with Aer Lingus.
Aer Lingus considers the UK to be an important market for them. Currently, they operate 40 routes between Ireland and various airports. A lot of passengers also now use Dublin as a connecting airport for flights to North America. In the last year, profits at the airline have increased by 72% to 124 million Euros. The travel awards also saw Belfast voted the best city in the UK.
