A safari is a trip of a lifetime, and I’m sure it’s something which is on everyone’s bucket list. The word safari means ‘journey’ in Swahili and that’s certainly what this kind of trip is: a journey. However, as a safari can seem like a pipedream, it can be difficult to plan them. Here at Holiday Numbers, we love to be helpful, so we’ve done the hard work for you when it comes to researching a safari.
Safari Destinations

- Kenya
- Tanzania
- South Africa
- Namibia
- Botswana
- Rwanda
Each area has a different landscape, for example you could see orange sand dunes in one and green wetlands in another.
Types of Safari

The beauty of a safari is that you can plan it minutely to your specifications. You can choose to have aspects of it as a walking safari, spend some nights camping under the stars or go for a luxury lodge. You can go privately or tour as part of a larger group. You can choose to have your safari as part of a longer holiday or make the safari your holiday and tour around different reserves.
When should I go on safari?

The most popular time to go on safari is between June and October as that is when the wildebeest migration occurs. The migration is widely considered as Africa’s greatest natural spectacle as millions of wildebeest migrate in a clockwise direction, crossing two countries and mating/giving birth along the way. You have to time your trip right, otherwise you could end up staring at a landscape with no wildebeest. This handy guide tells you where the herd will be and when.
The perfect amount of time for a safari is between 3-6 days. If you go for less than three, you don’t have time to soak up the safari experience, but anymore than six and you may find that it becomes tiresome. Safaris involve a lot of early mornings and long journeys, so if you have young children it’s better to go for 3-4 days and know that they will enjoy it.
Activities

Believe it or not, you can do other activities on safari bar looking at the scenery. You can go bird watching, fishing, boating, diving, horseriding or even take a ride in a hot air balloon.
