It’s officially Spring! Across the country, families are gearing up for an Easter break to make the most of the sunshine overseas. It’s a great time to travel to avoid crowds, expensive hotel rates and bad weather. Here are some of our favourite destinations to visit in the Spring.
Andalusia
This Southern Spain gem is an ideal place for a Spring getaway. Visit in time for the Cruces de Mayo festival, where religious groups compete for the best decorated cross. You’ll also get to experience the cultural delicacy of Andalusian snails! However, if like me, you struggle with a pollen allergy it may not be the best time to visit as the olive trees can create clouds of pollen.
Crete
Crete is a beautiful Greek island which is great to visit in Spring. Tavernas and little family run hotels are just gearing up for the summer season. The weather is beautifully warm and if you time it right, you can see the Orthodox Easter celebrations.
Naples
Spring is the time of celebration in Naples. The Italians love to hold festivals in Spring such as the Wino & The City food and drink festival and the Maggio dei Monumenti festival of free concerts, exhibitions and free access to monuments.
Sorrento
Staying in Italy, Sorrento is beautiful in Spring. The orange and lemon fruit trees are in bloom, the weather is pleasantly warm and it is considerably quieter than some parts of Italy.
Seville
This area of Spain is perfect in Spring as it isn’t too hot and there are less crowds. The Spring produce makes for tasty meals and the April festival gets underway.
Canary Islands
There are seven islands to choose from and they all have something to offer. The weather, particularly in the likes of Tenerife, is mild and warm.
Florida
Whether you choose Orlando or Miami, you can be sure that the Sunshine State will bring you good weather. It’s a perfect time for a Disney holiday as there are less crowds.
Paxos
This unspoilt Greek island gives you an authentic experience, from the food to the people. Visit in Spring and it will be even quieter.
Tobago
Tobago is perhaps the smallest and friendliest Caribbean nation. It’s not yet as popular as other Caribbean resorts such as Barbados and Antigua, so now is the best time to go.
Cuba
For a beach holiday mixed with culture, Cuba is perfect. Now is a great time to go ,as diplomatic relations with the US are improving which means more tourists will go!
Galapagos Islands
If you love nature, this is the destination for you. April sees baby seal pups born on the beach, and the seas are lovely and calm.
Ljubljana
This Slovenian city has been named European Green Capital. Spring sees the return of the famous dandelion salad.
Dubai
For a guaranteed tan, head to Dubai where temperatures reach 32c in Spring.
